DCM

A Data Collection Module (DCM) describes the physical microprocessor-controlled unit which is attached to a machine or group of machines. The DCM collects and monitors Real-Time data such as machine state, rejected parts, and process variable values. This data is transferred to the host database for display.

The DCM also provides an interface for the machine operator through either a Keypad (KP) or Electroluminescent/Touch Screen (EL/TS) display, TouchPanel display (RTL-DCM), or browser based interface. These options enable manipulation and/or viewing of various machine operations.

DCMs are self-contained units. The DCM can operate independently of the host computer for some period of time by maintaining its own copy of job queues and historical production records in battery backed RAM. Some DCM configurations have communications processor functionality built in and do not require a physical, external communications processor. This includes all rtl-dcm type modules.

The DCM browser interface is available from any networked computer that has an appropriate web browser installed.
